The Day before the Wedding

I know this may be a bit premature, but my time lately has been consumed with all the fun stuff to set up with the wedding.  The day before the wedding, Troy and I were thinking of doing some activities with all of you that are joining us in Mexico.  So far, we were thinking that the girls would do something at the spa and I am also checking on getting "cocktail lessons" at the hotel (it's one of the activities they have right at the hotel).  For the guys, we were thinking that you guys could do some outdoorsy activity, such as ATV riding, golfing, etc.  Of course we want all of your input because we want everyone to enjoy themselves.  Also, it is not required that you participate, but we thought it would be a good time to hang out as an entire group.  I will email the link for the spa options and prices to the ladies in case you are interested.  Please check out the website www.loscabosguide.com to look for other activities that are available.  Although you can sign up for all these activities once you get there, it at least gives you an idea of prices so you can plan accordingly for your trip.

Also, we were thinking that at night, we could all eat together at "Portofino" which is a formal restaurant at the resort.  They don't take reservations, but they open for dinner at 6pm, so the wedding coordinator suggested just getting there when they open so we could be sure to all sit together.

As an FYI, they have different dress codes for the dinner restaurants.  4 of the 5 restaurants are "casual elegance" which means you must wear sneakers/tennis shoes/sandals, dress shirts with sleeves, no sleeveless shirts, no flip flops, and long pants required for men.  Portofino is the one restaurant that is considered "formal" which means for men:  long pants, collared shirts, and dress shoes.  For women: blouses, skirts, slacks, or dresses, with dress shoes.  I don't know how particular they are with the type of dresses for girls, but it might not hurt to bring a little cardigan or something in case you can't have bare shoulders, depending on the type of dress.  I just wanted to pass this information, mainly so everyone knew what to expect for dinners when you are there, so you aren't underdressed.  Of course, I'm guessing they have much less formal places "buffet-style", but I'm not sure what type of meals everyone will be looking for either, so keep this in mind when you are packing!

Flight Updates!

Thanks to my dad, I found out today that our flights have changed minimally from the original information we all selected.  So, if your flight left Tuesday morning from Detroit, please keep reading.  Apparently, my dad got a phone call today from Expedia saying that the flight he chose (the same one that everyone leaving Tuesday has), was cancelled.  So, he was given an alternative flight that they asked him to confirm.  He called me to see if I received the same phone call and I didn't.  I want to get this information out in case any of you do, or do not, get the same call.  Although I didn't get a phone call, I checked my itinerary and after I signed in, it said my flight status changed and it gave the phone number to call.  When I called the number, the woman said that the original flight was cancelled, but what they do when that happens, is put everyone on the cancelled flight on the next closest flight according to time.  So before the flight left at 7:45, now it is 8am.  I was a little upset that I didn't get any phone call/email, so when I asked her what would have happened if I didn't call to confirm the flight like my dad did, she said that this new flight is pretty much the "default" flight so if you don't call, you will be put on that flight.  If that flight wouldn't work out (although its so close on all departure and arrival times) then you would be given new choices to pick from.  She suggests that everyone checks their itinerary from time to time to look for any changes (and yes, I also indicated to her that it would be nice if we were ALL informed of this change through phone call like my dad was), and although you will automatically be put on the new flights so we'll all be on the same one, it wouldn't hurt to call and confirm, so you can get an updated itinerary.

I hope all this makes sense.  I was getting a little nervous when my dad told me that the flight was cancelled, but it was pretty much just changed to a new flight number and slightly different times (within 5-15 minute difference in times).  Let me know if this confuses anyone, but please check your itinerary and if you have time, contact Expedia to confirm the new times just so you can be sure you are on the same flight (new flight leaving at 8am and landing ultimately in Los Cabos at 1:34pm -- 2 minutes earlier!!).

Also, for any of you counting...today starts the 100 day countdown!

4 months from today

In case no one else is counting down -- today is officially the 4 month mark! I can't believe how fast this is coming up and with everything else picking up now (work, sports -- college basketball, hockey, baseball starting) I have a feeling it is going to keeping moving along just as fast! Not that I'm complaining at all -- 90 degree temperatures, laying by the pool, drink in hand -- who would?

We have our final count of 15, and the only thing left to plan with the wedding planner is food! That is the best part if you ask me (well, besides the cake!). Troy and I would also like to do something with everyone for part of Wednesday -- the guys do something and the girls do something different, then meet back up for dinner somewhere together. We don't know exactly what that is going to be yet, but some suggestions were deep sea fishing, day at the spa, horseback riding, riding the zipline, ATV tour, etc. If you have any suggestions please let us know because we want to make sure everyone enjoys their time!

So for now, we'll start the countdown -- 112 days until the wedding -- 110 days (or less for some of you arriving early) til Mexico!

His gift...

Well, I've held out long enough.  Troy got an iMac.  Yup, an enormous 24" screen with everything built in.  Compared to the screen, the keyboard is wafer-thin (not to mention cordless).  Although it looks a little out of place in our bedroom on our small little Ikea table, he couldn't resist the recent price drop.  Hopefully we'll soon have a more suitable home for it (on a nicer desk and in it's own office!).  Thanks also to Mark and Nicole for sharing some software....that was MUCH appreciated!

What an iBirthday!!!

We all know that Troy celebrates not only his birthday, but his entire birthday month.  I guess this justifies some extra spending....hmm...I wonder what he got?!?!?

Happy 34th!!!!

Another year older and another year wiser (or maybe just more sarcastic than ever!)  =)  It's Troy's birthday today, so I hope you have a good day, cute!  Tonight we're off to Red Lobster for dinner (yummy biscuits!) to celebrate and then some gift opening afterwards.  Well, actually, I'm sure he'll talk me into letting him open them before.  Regardless, happy birthday Troy...with many more to come!

Happy Valentine's Day! (Part 2)

What a great day we had yesterday!  First we had a quick lunch at Jimmy John's before going to see a movie.  Since Troy took me to "Friday the 13th" on Friday, he said he would go see "He's Just Not That Into You" with me, so we headed to the movies to see that movie.  It's mostly a cute chick flick, but there were some funny parts in it so it didn't totally bore Troy (or so he says).

After the movies, the big "surprise" for the night was a dinner at The Melting Pot.  Neither of us had been there, but I know of a few people that have gone there and loved it.  All in all, it was a wonderful experience, and we left there so uncomfortably full that we couldn't eat another bite.  First we started off with a cheese fondue (Spinach and Artichoke was our choice).  They gave us unlimited bread, apple slices, and veggies to dip in!  YUM!

Then we had a Cherry Blossom salad and then it was time for the meat course.  The server combined chicken broth with some wine, garlic, scallions, mushrooms, etc. and then brought us lobster tail, shrimp, portabella mushrooms, duck, filet mignon, chicken breast, and pork to cook in the pot of all the liquid, to marinate and cook it all at the same time.  We also had unlimited potatoes, broccoli, mushroom caps to add to it.
The last part of the meal was a chocolate fondue for dessert.  Although I am not a huge chocolate fan, this was absolutely delectable!  We got a tiramisu fondue and were given bananas, strawberries, brownie bites, cheesecake, cinnamon sticks, oreo covered marshmallows, graham cracker covered marshmallows, and rice krispie treats to dip in the chocolate!  Troy and I were about half way done when we hit "the wall".  That feeling in your stomach (above and beyond a Thanksgiving dinner) that tells you that you can't eat any more.  The feeling that makes it hard just to breathe, let alone talk!  So, we sat there a little bit, made room for a few more, and sadly, left the cheesecake slice and a few other pieces on the plate.  We couldn't do it!

So, after our wonderful dinner, we wobbled to the car and came home, to lay down and let our stomach settle!  The Melting Pot is definitely a great place to go, and would recommend it to everyone if you haven't gone yet.  Just be sure you don't eat for the entire day so you have enough room to eat all this wonderful food!  We hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine's Day as we had a very nice one ourselves!
